SCIENTIFIC NAME: CARIDEA

There are over 2,000 shrimp species in the world. They are the most consumed seafood in the United States. In total, Americans consume one billion lbs. of shrimp, annually. This highly sought-after crustacean dwells in ocean waters on or near the seafloor, all over the globe in depths of 30 ft to 1,000 ft. They are considered opportunistic omnivores; they will literally eat anything organic available for survival. They are another fast ocean swimmer, swimming as fast as 30 shrimp body lengths per second!
