AMERICAN LOBSTER
SCIENTIFIC NAME: HOMARUS AMERICANUS
American lobsters are a family of marine crustaceans that have the ability to grow forever. They eat, molt, and grow indefinitely. The American lobster is found dwelling along the Atlantic coastal waters of North America in crevices and burrows, with sizable populations throughout New England and from Canada to Cape Hatteras.
The American lobster also referred to as the Maine lobster or Atlantic lobster, is easily recognizable due to the large claws of the lobster, one rounded to crush its prey, and the other with sharp serrated edges for holding and tearing. You can expect the American lobster to average from 1-9 lbs, although these lobsters have been known to get massive, some even reaching over 40 lbs.
