

OCEAN PERCH
SCIENTIFIC NAME: SEBASTES ALUTUS
Ocean perch are categorized as rockfish. The name rockfish refers to the habitual action of hiding among rocks and reefs where they hunt smaller prey such as anchovies and crustaceans. Adult ocean perch can be found in both Pacific and Atlantic Ocean waters. Depending on the season and ocean conditions, they can be found living in water depths ranging from 297 ft-2,723 ft. Perch are a slow-growing fish species and have the potential for long lives, close to 100 years old. At peak growth, ocean perch can reach approximately 20 inches in length and weigh up to 4 lbs.
The ocean perch is a lean semi-firm meat fish with moist and flaky flesh that carries a mild ocean flavor with a sweet bite.
